About Mohamad Zreik
Mohamad Zreik is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Sun Yat-sen University in Zhuhai, China, where he has worked since December 2023 researching soft power diplomacy and comparing China’s methods of engagement in the Middle East and East Asia. His work sits at the intersection of international relations, political economy, and regional studies, with a sustained focus on China, the Middle East, and the broader Asian region.
He holds a PhD in International Relations from Central China Normal University, completed with the support of a Chinese Government Scholarship, together with two Master’s degrees — in International Law: Diplomacy and Strategic Negotiations from Université Paris-Sud, and in Political Science and International Relations from La Sagesse University — and a Bachelor’s degree in Translation and Interpretation from Lebanese International University.
Prior to his current position, he served as Research Department Director at the Center for Asian and Chinese Studies in Beirut, and has held research and consulting roles including Research Fellow at Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin in Malaysia and Consultant to the Centre for Lebanese Studies at the University of Cambridge. This trajectory reflects sustained international academic experience across Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.
His scholarship has been published as books and edited volumes with Palgrave Macmillan / Springer Nature and IGI Global, and his analytical commentary has appeared in outlets including the South China Morning Post, The Diplomat, China Daily, CGTN, Al Jazeera, Al Mayadeen, Modern Diplomacy, and Eurasia Review. He serves as Secretary-General of the Middle East Studies Unit at Sun Yat-sen University and has reviewed more than 200 manuscripts for journals indexed in Web of Science and Scopus, most of them SSCI- and Scopus-indexed titles.
